| During 2005 and 2006, the Universal Postal Union has made great strides to open itself up to stakeholders of the postal sector, promote the postal sector's role in the information society, develop better relations with United Nations and other international organizations, extend the electronic money transfer network for the benefit of all citizens, in particular migrant workers, and highlight the need to improve the quality of service, establish and improve international standards and use new technologies to improve services.
This report highlights the UPU's activities over the two years to meet the objectives of the Bucharest World Postal Strategy and establish the basis for the future Nairobi Postal Strategy, which will be adopted at the Nairobi Congress, to be held from 13 August to 3 September 2008.
Moreover, their very diversity emphasizes the postal sector's important role in the daily lives of people and in today's economies. |
