Global Addressing Conference
26 and 27 October 2015, Berne (SWITZERLAND)
Addresses represent a critical national infrastructure capable of underpinning social and economic development. There is increasing recognition that the effective use of address information can alleviate many of the developmental challenges faced by countries, such as urban development, social inclusion, provision of basic services, and preparedness for natural disasters, disease pandemics or population displacement.
Against this backdrop, the Universal Postal Union is organizing an Addressing Conference, with the aim of exploring how to extend access to address infrastructure. This conference, supported by the Saudi Post, will be held at UPU headquarters in Berne, Switzerland, on 26 and 27 October 2015, during the UPU Council of Administration session.
The forward-looking event will discuss new ways for addresses to be developed and implemented faster and at lower cost, in particular through the use of new technologies.
- Day one will focus on illustrating the economic and social value of address infrastructure; as well as on reviewing innovative solutions and tools that facilitate address management and access to spatial information.
- Day two will be devoted to building capacities through a hands-on session, focused on real examples of up-to-date, user-friendly addressing system models
