2015 World Postal Business Forum
Innovation, integration and inclusion to drive the future Post
The Universal Postal Union will focus on innovation, integration and inclusion as the key drivers for the future Post, Director General Bishar Hussein has said. In a statement delivered by UPU Deputy Director General Pascal Clivaz at the opening of the World Postal Business Forum in Paris, Mr Hussein highlighted the need for structural reforms in the postal business, driven by technology.
"The success of the UPU and the Post will be determined by their ability to respond to fast-changing consumer needs and expectations," Mr Clivaz told the forum, which was also addressed by Mr Philippe Wahl, Chairman and CEO of France's La Poste.
Mr Clivaz said that the UPU was assigning more resources to the development of e-commerce and financial services. He also said that the Post must embrace modern technology in order to develop other services.

"The Post must adapt to new technologies and infrastructure that will enable it to develop suitable last-mile delivery networks leading to the economic, social, financial and digital inclusion of all citizens of the world," he said.
According to Mr Wahl, La Poste was focusing on diversification of products and services as the main area for growth. His company had diversified into logistics, freight forwarding, banking and financial services, and even mobile telephone operation. He said future postal business will be driven by the digital platform, while the long-term future will depend on sustainable development initiatives.
