Copyright (c) 2003 Hong Kong Trade Development CouncilThe UPU is holding a conference on e-commerce in Hong Kong from May 21-23, 2009. Hosted by Hongkong Post, the event will bring together industry professionals from UPU member countries.

Delegates from operators, regulators and ministries will discuss how the postal industry can partner with different actors in the supply chain to meet market needs. Other sessions will discuss how e-commerce can drive growth in times of economic crisis, as well as increasing cross-border trade. New products and case studies will also be revealed.

The UPU’s electronic postal services specialist, Paul Donohoe, said that the conference would explore the potentially profitable partnership between e-commerce and Posts in depth. “The worldwide postal network can address both e-commerce as a critical enabler of postal-services growth and the challenges faced in cross border growth of e-commerce,” explained Mr. Donohoe.

Speakers will include the UPU’s deputy director general, Mr. Guozhong Huang, Ms. Lau Ng Wai-lan, secretary for commerce and economic development, Hong Kong government, Dr. Ko Kwang-Sup, director general, Korea Post, and Mr. Yau-Fung Chan, deputy postmaster general, Hongkong Post, along with expert contributions from e-commerce merchants, postal operators and customers.
