What will the Post be like in 2005? This is the question we attempted to answer in 1997 with a contribution to the postal development debate in the form of the study Post 2005 - Core Business Scenarios, which took a closer look at the variables influencing the letter post at world and regional level. The response to this study confirmed the need for the International Bureau to continue to publish relevant, up-to-date information about the situation in the postal sector.

Hence this new brochure entitled Post 2005 - Follow-up and trends. Another questionnaire was sent to all UPU member-country administrations and territories in 2000 to collect data for comparing the initial study's forecasts with the actual letter-post developments observed between 1995 and 1999. Its questions were designed to ascertain the postal traffic trends observed and the Posts' share of the market compared with that of their competitors. One hundred and fifty-eight administrations took part in the survey.
