27th UPU Congress stamp issue

On 9 August 2021, La Poste de Côte d'Ivoire issued a special series of postage stamps commemorating the 27th UPU Congress, which took place from 9 to 27 August 2021 in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.

The images in the stamp express a number of symbols, namely:

  • The representation of religious buildings, an image that evokes the secularity of Côte d'Ivoire;
  • The multiple cultural expressions from one territory to another, a sign that Côte d'Ivoire remains a cultural deposit;
  • The historical positioning of the Congress, which is the basis of the artistic approach of the logo;

The approach is based on the four important elements and their symbolism:

  • Africa - The map of the African continent
  • Côte d'Ivoire - The elephant and its tusks
  • The Congress edition - The number 27
  • The object of the Congress (the postal service) - The envelope

Each symbol is stylized to bring a strong upward dynamic to the image of the vitality that the Congress wants to give to this sector and its ambitions for growth. Without frills, the logo is obtained by merging the stylized graphic symbols of these four elements. The fusion approach used is an assembly. A futuristic assembly that still facilitates the intuitive reading of each of the four stylized constituent elements. The whole is kept in a tone of blue color, to get closer to the color codes of the Universal Postal Union. Abidjan is written in Orange, the first color of the national flag of the Ivory Coast that hosts.

The whole was to give this set, a fine and dynamic style for the nod to the speed of actions that offers the digitalization of postal services.
