UPU Postal Climate Transparency Action

Congress resolution C 7/2023 on UPU climate action marks a significant milestone for our Union, strengthening its resolve to respond to the global climate emergency.

The resolution provides for the launch of the UPU Postal Climate Transparency Action, which aims to increase the visibility of climate commitments by individual postal stakeholders. The Action outlines a set of core principles for guiding the climate transformation of the postal sector, helping to communicate a consistent message to external stakeholders.

The UPU Postal Climate Transparency Action includes four separate initiatives:

Initiative 1

To publish individual scope 1 and 2 emission reduction targets for 2030 and 2050, or as close as possible to 2050, and periodically report progress towards these targets to the IB. 

Designated operators from the following UPU Member Countries have registered for Initiative 1:

Initiative 2

To develop, disclose and implement a roadmap for key climate activities. 

Designated operators from the following UPU Member Countries have registered for Initiative 2:

Initiative 3

To disclose the results of climate actions in a quantified manner, where existing capabilities allow.

Designated operators from the following UPU Member Countries have registered for Initiative 3:

To identify and communicate green revenue business models and to increase the share of such revenue.
