Philately: digitalization and business model

This year, the AMDP is holding its annual conference at the CAPE TOWN 2022 International Stamp Exhibition, which will be held November 8-12, 2022.

The various technological breakthroughs of recent years, which have irreversibly changed the daily lives and activities of people and businesses around the world, have also changed the game for philately and its industry. The opportunities that rapid innovations in digitalization and information and communication technologies (ICT) offer to designated operators are opening up new business opportunities.

In this post-CIVID19 era, e-commerce has remained paramount, with online purchases and sales continuing to increase and remaining well above pre-pandemic levels, indicating a perennial shift in consumer habits. It is therefore essential that the designated operators also take this technological turn in philately to face this new digital environment so as not to fall too far behind.

In order to promote dialogue and cooperation in this area, to increase awareness and understanding of the needs of designated operators, and to share best practices, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) jointly organized with the WADP, the Pan African Postal Union and South Africa an international philatelic conference bringing together representatives of Posts, regional and international organizations, as well as WADP's partners and associate members.
