New Members Announcement: Lars Karlsson (MAERSK), VariusSystems, NovaPoshta, and Escher Group

The Chair of the UPU Consultative Committee (CC), Mr Walter Trezek, is pleased to announce that the applications of Lars Karlsson (Maersk), VariusSystems, Nova Poshta, and Escher Group to become members of the UPU CC, have been approved.

The Chair of the UPU Consultative Committee (CC), Mr Walter Trezek, is pleased to announce that the application of Lars Karlsson (Maersk) to become a High-Level Figure of the UPU CC has been approved.

Lars Karlsson, Global Head of Trade and Customs Consulting at A.P. Møller-Maersk, is widely acknowledged as one of the most well-known and experienced customs leaders in the world, with an extensive background of over 30 years in customs, borders and international trade policy.

Mr Karlsson served at the top of the World Customs Organization (WCO) for six years, and is also a former Director General and Deputy Director General of Swedish Customs, having served in the Swedish government for 28 years.

Mr Karlsson acts as a senior advisor to governments, international institutions and multinational companies worldwide, and has also acted as independent senior advisor to both the European Union and the United Kingdom on Brexit. He leads and sits on the board of several international think-tanks and research networks on customs, borders and trade.

VariusSystems GmbH is an internationally operating company with core competence in the areas of development and sales of cloud-based identification solutions for the post and parcel industry, authentication, brand protection, blockchain, and personal and object registration.

It has a proven track record in the postal industry, in which it helps bridge traditional postal services with blockchain by both printing and facilitating the implementation of crypto stamps.
