The Ukrainian Post has informed the designated postal operators of the Universal Postal Union’s member countries to suspend the dispatch of international mail to Ukraine addressed to the Crimea until further notice.
“The designated operator of Ukraine, the Ukrainian State Postal Enterprise (Ukrposhta), asks us to inform all designated operators of UPU member countries that, owing to the current situation in Ukraine, and on the Crimean peninsula in particular, there are difficulties delivering postal items of all kinds to addressees residing in the Crimea and Sevastopol,” said the UPU message sent to member countries on behalf of Ukraine. “Ukrposhta therefore asks the designated operators of UPU member countries to suspend the dispatching to Ukraine of any international postal items addressed to the Crimea (postal codes in the range 95000–99999).”
UPU Director General Bishar A. Hussein said he hoped the parties involved would soon find an operational solution.
Ukrposhta said global postal operators would be informed about the resumption of deliveries as soon as the situation changes.
According to the latest statistics of the UPU, Ukraine received some 20 million letters and more than 2.5 million parcels from abroad in 2012.
